Countryside

In the past, farmers cultivated rice, textile hemp, and cotton in the rural areas of Versilia. Nowadays, they grow fruits, vegetables, and some particular crops like eucalyptus near the Massaciuccoli Lake. Over time, a renowned nursery gardening industry has flourished, famous throughout Italy for its flowers and pants production.

The  landscape in Versilia has remained that of a widespread countryside, with many detached houses equipped with vegetable gardens, landscaped yards, barbecue areas, and sunbathing spaces. Properties with swimming pools are not uncommon, although tourists in these parts are accustomed to enjoying the pools at beach resorts. In Viareggio, Forte dei Marmi, Marina di Pietrasanta, and Lido di Camaiore, when renting a beach umbrella with sunbeds, visitors often have access to the pool as well.
